Oooh. Bit of a shock yesterday. PDF Print E-mail
ImageHad a bit of a heart-stopper yesterday. I was playing with Talia down at the park (watching her play really) when she walked behind one of the swings. She's a bit careless around swings. I hope this is a trend that won't continue too long... Anyway. The girl that was on it never saw her as Talia was behind her. Talia stepped backwards into the path of the swing before I could stop her. The swing hit her just behind the head and lifted her right off the ground. She hit the sand completely flat and limp - face first and lay completely still. No movement at all. Had me more than a little worried I can tell you. I had to ruthlessly clamp down on my emotions lest I begin to panic. She stayed that way (no sound, no movement) for 5-10 seconds. Then she started to moan. That's when I stared to relax a little. Then she started crying. Once you hear that you know things are OK. It when they go quiet that something's seriously wrong. Anyway. 2 minutes later she'd completely forgotten the incident and was playing with me in the sand again. I had a little talk with her about the dangers of swings. Hopefully she'll remember before she gets hurt too badly. I find myself in a position of walking a type rope of conflicting feelings. On one hand I don't want to protect my kids so sucessfully that they don't learn about what is dangerous and what is safe. On the other hand, I don't want them to get hurt either. I suppose I'll just have to be dilligent and keep them from too great a harms way and hope they learn before they hurt themselves too badly. Cheers. Paul.
